Our History

Our History …What is NESAO?

NESAO stands for Northeast Surgical Associates of Ohio. It was created in 1993 when a group of surgeons decided to come together to create a premier surgical group dedicated to serving the needs of the communities of Northeast Ohio. NESAO has continued to grow as a practice and remains one of the few truly independent private practice groups in the Cleveland Area. Two members of NESAO initiated the wound management service program as a division of NESAO in 2000.

Keith M. Warner MD, FACS serves as the managing member of NESAO. He is board certified in general surgery. In practice for more than fifteen (15) years, Dr. Warner has unique experience in successfully treating some of the most difficult wound and ostomy cases. After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, NJ, Dr. Warner earned his medical degree at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He completed residency in general surgery at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, and a colorectal fellowship at the University of Texas in Houston, TX. He has been in practice with NESAO since 1993.

S. Kwon Lee MD, FACS FCCWS serves as Medical Director of NESAO Wound Management Service. He is a board certified general surgeon and certified wound specialist. Dr. Lee has made more than 800 presentations on the science and art of wound healing. He graduated from John Hopkins University and received his medical degree from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Parkland Hospital and a research fellowship at the VA Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He successfully completed a surgical residency at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland and has been practicing with NESAO since 1994. He also had the opportunity to attend the Oxford Summer School in England, where he learned about modern wound care.

What is the NESAO Wound Management Service?

NESAO is the premier provider of wound management services outside the ambulatory wound care center setting. With the majority of wounds not able to readily access wound centers, our patients come from nursing homes, home care agencies and LTAC's, all of which are admitting a growing number of debilitated individuals who are more at risk for, and present with, skin and wound issues. The advantage to these venues utilizing the wound management service is patients and residents can be seen on site in consultation with no additional cost to the facility or agency. NESAO is effective in delivering high quality services as well as being pioneers in product reviews, clinical research and training methods for the facility and home health agency staff.

Over the past eight years, NESAO has managed over 40,000 wounds in more than over 300 facilities across the state of Ohio. We accomplished this task by utilizing a team of highly trained Advanced Practice Nurses (APN's) who are dedicated to the science and healing of wounds.
